Practice Guideline - Cervical Cancer Screening & Pelvic Exams
MCI Guideline for Cervical Cancer Screening with Pap Smears is:
- Begin screening at
the onset of sexual
activity or age 18.
- Screen yearly
until 3 or more
normal results then
every 3 years.
- Women age 70 and
older may stop screening
if:
- They have had three or
more normal pap test in
a row, and
- No abnormal pap test in
the last 10 years
- Re-initiate screening
on any woman with a new
sexual partner.
- Women who have had a
total Hysterectomy for
benign disease do not
need pap smears, but
still should have pelvic
exams.
MCI Guideline for
Pelvic Exams is:
- Begin Pelvic exams at
the onset of sexual
activity or age 18
- Chlamydia and
Gonorrhea Screening
should be done routinely
at each pelvic exam for
sexually active women
age 25 and less.
- The Interval for
Pelvic exams depends on
the patient’s risk as
outlined in the table
below:
